Is This Thing On?

audacity-logo-r_50pct.jpgLike ripples in a pond, sound waves are emanating from classroom computers around the district as teachers embrace web 2.0 applications like podcasting!  Microphones are cropping up in classrooms, and students may be heard reciting poetry, collaborating verbally on story ideas, and explaining how the Statue of Liberty makes them feel patriotic.

If you are contemplating adding sound to your SMART Notebook lesson activities, creating a podcast with your students, or developing a digital story, then you will have a lot of success recording with Audacity.  Audacity is a sound recording and editing program on your computer which will allow you to save your recordings in a file format know as mp3.  This format is widely accepted by the software we use in the district.  You can even add an mp3 file to your teacher web pages!

Contact Erik Yates if you need more information, but if you are ready to go right NOW, then look in your school’s Faculty Share folder for a folder labeled Technology.  In that folder are two files which will show you how to use Audacity.
